IBMlogo3 EbizIBM will collaborate with more than 200 local and international universities to develop courses and programs aimed at giving students a foundation in cybersecurity skills.

The initiative seeks to address a need for professionals with knowledge of how to secure enterprise data, cloud computing infrastructure and mobile devices, IBM said Friday.

“Developing security intelligence skills for the 21st century, including the ability to proactively predict, identify and react to potential threats has taken on a new priority in the digital age,” said Marisa Viveros, vice president of IBM’s cybersecurity innovation program.

“Our security skills development programs are designed to address the most urgent areas of security and provide expertise and training to help clients cope with the dire skills shortage,” Viveros added.

IBM’s program gives universities access to its software products and provides them network scanners built to track intrusions, the company says.

The company also intends to present awards to winning faculty members with proposals on how their institutions can applyIBM technology to the curriculum.
